Today's blog is on some interesting tips about working out that I have learned along the way.
Slimming down takes longer than bulking up.
Mmmm. Mesomorphs and Endomorphs will likely testify to this. Gaining muscle is too easy. Can probably take around two good weeks. On the other hand losing it will take longer, sometimes up to 6 months.
The two are completely different. Building muscle means you are not in a calorie deficit, eating a good amount of carbs and probably doing a lot of weight lifting, HIIT, and all the hardcore workouts. Slimming down will mean you have to follow a low-carb diet, be in a calorie deficit, and carefully watch the workouts you do. They will have to be those that make sure you do not overuse muscles leading them to grow bigger.

Coldwater burns calories
This was very shocking to me when I learned about it. Something I had not known but knew a lot of people practiced. Drinking cold water especially first thing in the morning will lower body temperature, this will force the body to use more energy (calories) to take the body back to its normal temperature. Fun ha.
Next time, don't be scared to drink some sips first thing when you wake up.
Coffee does not burn more calories.
There is this myth that coffee burns calories especially when taken without sugar and before a workout. This is not entirely true. The only thing that coffee does is that it acts as an antioxidant meaning it helps flush out toxins from your systems. There is no relation with coffee burning more calories.
Green tea does not also burn calories.
Yesss! The green juices. I am a big fan of green tea and while you might have been deceived that it burns more calories and helps you lose weight, it is not true. Green tea works the same as coffee. It is a powerful antioxidant, helping you flush out toxins from your body.
Fruits and Vegetables are enough sources of carbohydrates.
This one is interesting. Yes, fruits and vegetables not only have lots of fiber, vitamins, and sometimes protein but they are also carbohydrates in themselves. Especially, fruits. This is because they contain natural sugars and sugar is carbs.
Endomorphs are usually advised to keep to a low-carb diet and the best way to keep to this is usually having fruits and vegetables as their main source of carbs
You need 6 tablespoons of sugar a day.
Six! I know. This was an absolute shocker and just to make it worse, this does include the natural sugar already in the food. For example, baked beans have around 2 teaspoons of sugar in them and a banana has 4 of these. After doing my research on sugar, I have realized that sugar is actually a bigger problem than we think. I am not so good at avoiding sugary stuff but I am trying to watch it. You can have treats at least twice a week but it shouldn't be every day.
There is this blog here on how sugar is treated in the body and how it affects weight loss. Please have a read of it.
Fasted cardio works best if on a low carb diet.
I am sure you can agree that fasted cardio is better than just normal cardio. But why?
Fasted cardio is cardio done when one has not eaten for a long period of time. Preferably early in the morning.
When the body needs the energy to fuel you while doing your cardio it will most likely go for the easiest source which is usually carbohydrates. Now because you haven't had any food prior to the workout these carbohydrates are not usually available, the body then switches to fat. That is the fat stored in all the areas we don't like, like the underarms, thighs, belly, and so on. This is exactly why fasted cardio is preferred; it burns more fat than carbs.
More muscle, better ability to burn fat.
People with a bigger muscle percentage (bulked up) can burn fat quicker than those with not. I know I don't usually like building muscle, but that does not mean that I don't recommend it. You can bulk up or choose a slimmer look. It is all personal preference. I and probably most of the lovely girls that follow me prefer a slimmer look.
More muscle is associated with a better and higher metabolism, meaning the more muscle you have the faster your metabolism is and the quicker you can burn fat. Maybe it's not bad after all. But not for me.
I hope you liked this blog and learned something.
So long,
Jowe
